Announcing the Acquisition of Alcion by Veeam!

I am thrilled to announce the acquisition of Alcion by Veeam!

As we begin the next chapter of our journey within Veeam, we are very excited to join forces with a company that we deeply respect, and whose culture and vision has inspired us in many ways. Together, we will continue to advance the state of the art in modern data management and cement our lead in this space.

What’s Different About Data Protection Today

Vaibhav Kamra and I started Alcion in 2022 as we saw a dramatic shift in the cause of data loss in today's digital climate. There are ever-increasing threats to data from ransomware and malware at a time when increasing amounts of business-critical data are moving to the cloud and online SaaS services, such as Microsoft 365.  It is no longer a question of whether a data mishap will occur, but when. That's why, at Alcion, we made it our mission to safeguard against both malicious attacks and accidents.

Alcion rethought, from the ground up, how a modern data protection platform should be designed to address both backups and security. On one hand, we leveraged powerful AI techniques to learn user behavior, schedule backups intelligently, remove malware, detect ransomware, and proactively schedule backups when threat signals are detected. On the other hand, it was also key to deliver a service with intuitive user experience, powerful automation, and simplified but robust backup and recovery workflows that remove operational complexity for our users.

We are excited to bring Alcion’s AI-powered capabilities, including advanced security, to Veeam to build a more robust Veeam Data Cloud.

Our Heartfelt Gratitude

The list of folks we need to thank for our success is extremely long, and it should suffice to say that we will be reaching out to many people over the next few days. However, there are certain people that I must acknowledge here.

Our Customers: I would like to thank all our customers from the bottom of our hearts. Their input and support were invaluable in ensuring that we were building the right solution at Alcion and putting AI to use in a manner that truly helped them. We look forward to continuing to support them under the Veeam Data Cloud umbrella.

The Alcion Team: None of our success would be possible without the world-class Alcion team. From our amazing founding team, who Vaibhav and I have been working with across multiple companies now, to folks we joined forces with for the first time. The team’s customer focus, creativity, hard work, and determination were critical to our success. We owe a great debt to them and their families for the deep trust that they placed in us. I can’t thank them enough and cannot wait to see all the fantastic things this team will accomplish within Veeam!

Our Investors: Alcion has been extremely fortunate to have the backing of several amazing investors. We owe a big debt of gratitude to Veeam and Anand Eswaran, Veeam’s CEO extraordinaire, whose support throughout the journey has been invaluable. Combined with our angel investors, who were always there whenever we needed support or guidance, I cannot think of a better group of people in our corner as we got Alcion off the ground.

Next Steps

I speak for the entire Alcion team when I say that we are truly excited about the new voyage ahead of us as a part of Veeam. Our charter is to continue to invest in, and build out, the Veeam Data Cloud platform. Combining the AI and Security capabilities of the Alcion platform with the scale of VDC - the fastest-growing Veeam product ever - is going to deliver great value to every Alcion and Veeam customer, current and future. We look forward to working with you on this journey and continuing Veeam’s mission to empower data resilience to keep businesses running and secure.
